The Tunis SNCFT Central Station, inaugurated in 1899, stands as one of the most iconic railway hubs in Tunisia. As the principal gateway connecting the north and south of the country, it has long served as one of the most frequented and essential modes of transport for Tunisian citizens. In an effort to preserve this historic landmark while improving the quality of service offered to its passengers, the National Railway Company of Tunisia launched a national architectural competition to envision the station’s renovation and future extension. Our proposal aims to respect the original architectural identity of the station while responding to contemporary needs.

The project introduces a new extension that expands passenger capacity, enhances circulation, and creates additional public spaces to accommodate increasing demand. At the same time, the design seeks to modernize the station’s image, providing a renewed architectural expression that reflects the ambition of the national railway company—an ambition rooted in efficiency, heritage preservation, and the desire to offer a more comfortable and forward-looking travel experience for all users.
