Dedicated to the protection of human rights on a national scale, the Union Nationale de la Femme Tunisienne (UNFT) has played a key role in defending and promoting women’s rights since its creation in 1956, shortly after Tunisia’s independence. In recognition of the Union’s enduring contributions—and in honor of the women who helped liberate and build the country—the Tunisian government launched a national open competition for the design of the new UNFT headquarters.

Our architectural proposal is rooted in the symbolic importance of women in the reconstruction and development of Tunisia. The design features a striking façade element representing a woman holding a torch, a powerful metaphor for hope, progress, and a bright future. Inside, the building is organized around open terraces, collaborative meeting spaces, and a large conference hall capable of hosting major national events. These interior spaces promote dialogue, visibility, and engagement, reinforcing the UNFT’s mission of empowerment, advocacy, and collective action.
